A time line of history of Pakistan and India since 1946
Today in the year of 2017 we find two neighbouring countries Pakistan
and India on the map of world.
Below is a time line of the historical events that formed the course of history of their today's present geographical shape.
1946
pre-partition India mainly consisted of British-controlled areas and sovereign princely states.
1947
British draw the Radcliffe Line before leaving India.As a result two new countries are born, India and Pakistan.Most princely states accede to either India or Pakistan.Few others remain independent.Pakistan and India go to war over kashmir,which ends with the creation of a cease fire line.
1948
The princely state of Junagadh joins India,while Kalat,Kharan,Makran and Las Bela join Pakistan.Hyderabad is annexed by India.
1949
Jodhpur decides to accede to India.Bhopal,kingdom of Travancore,Tripura and Manipur join India.
1954
The French territories of Pondicherry,Karaikkal,Mahe and Yanam join India.
1958
Pakistan buys the enclave of Gwadar from Oman.
1961
Indian troops annex Goa from the Portuguese.
1965
Pakistan and India fight the second war over kashmir.
1971
East Pakistan becomes Bangladesh after the war of independence.
1972
Line of control is formally established in kashmir.
1975
The kingdom of sikkim joins India following a referendum.
1999
India and Pakistan fight a war in the Kargil area of kashmir.Kashmir remains a disputed territory till this day.
